FIT4FUNCTION Supporting Run, Jump, Throw Events in Sheffield
Building Consistency, Confidence, and Athlete Availability
FIT4FUNCTION has been proud to support two Run, Jump, Throw athletics events in Sheffield, providing free physiotherapy assessment and sports massage on event days, alongside interactive performance activities designed to engage athletes, parents, and coaches.
Run, Jump, Throw events play a crucial role in the athletics pathway, exposing athletes to a broad range of movement skills and disciplines in a supportive environment. By being present at these events, our aim has been simple: to support athlete availability, reduce uncertainty around pain or niggles, and help athletes compete with confidence.
Following the success of these initial events, we’re delighted to confirm our intention to continue supporting future Run, Jump, Throw competitions as part of our commitment to grassroots and developmental athletics.
Event-Day Physiotherapy: Supporting Athletes and Coaches in Real Time
Across both events, FIT4FUNCTION provided on-site physiotherapy support for athletes before, during, and after competition. This included quick assessments for pain, reassurance where appropriate, hands-on treatment, and clear guidance on whether it was safe for athletes to continue competing.
For many athletes and parents, having access to physiotherapy on the day removed uncertainty and anxiety around minor issues. For coaches, it provided immediate clinical input, supporting informed decision-making without needing to guess whether an athlete should push on or pull back.
This real-time support helps:
Keep athletes competing safely on the day
Reduce unnecessary withdrawals
Prevent minor issues becoming bigger problems later
Build trust between athletes, parents, and coaches
Supporting Performance, Not Just Injury Management
A key principle behind FIT4FUNCTION’s involvement is that physiotherapy should support performance and participation, not simply respond to injury after the fact.
Athletics events often place unfamiliar demands on young athletes, particularly in multi-discipline formats. Having physiotherapy support present allows issues to be addressed early, helps athletes understand their bodies better, and encourages a more confident approach to competition.
This proactive model benefits both athletes and coaches by promoting consistency in training and competition, which is one of the most important drivers of long-term development.
Grip Strength Competition: Engaging Athletes in Performance Conversations
Alongside physiotherapy support, we also ran a grip strength competition at both events. While fun and competitive, this also provided a simple introduction to performance testing and physical preparation.
Grip strength is an accessible measure linked to overall strength and force production, and the competition sparked conversations around:
Strength development in athletics
Physical preparation alongside technical training
How simple testing can support long-term performance
For coaches, this created an easy way to engage athletes in discussions around physical development without adding pressure or complexity.
Benefits for Coaches and the Wider Athletics Community
By supporting Run, Jump, Throw events on the ground, FIT4FUNCTION aims to complement the work coaches already do. Our presence allows coaches to focus on coaching, while knowing athletes have access to appropriate clinical support if needed.
The benefits extend beyond the event itself:
Coaches gain reassurance around athlete readiness
Athletes develop confidence managing minor issues
Parents receive clear, evidence-based guidance
Clubs benefit from improved athlete availability
This integrated support model helps strengthen the overall athletics environment.
Looking Ahead
Having supported two Run, Jump, Throw events already, FIT4FUNCTION is committed to continuing this partnership and expanding our presence at future competitions in Sheffield and beyond.
We believe that accessible, event-day physiotherapy and performance support plays a key role in developing confident, resilient athletes and supporting coaches in their delivery.
If you’re an organiser or club interested in physiotherapy or performance support at future events, FIT4FUNCTION would be delighted to help.
