FEATURING busy lizzie fitness #1

So first of all Lizzie, it’s great to have you as part of the fit4function family, would you tell us a bit about your experience in the world of fitness?

I’ll jump in with the formal part first, I’m a qualified level 2 gym instructor and am currently working towards my level 3 PT qualification with YMCA Fit; I also have a BSc Honours degree in Strength and Conditioning from Hartpury University and am a qualified spin instructor. As a strength and conditioning coach, I have experience working with athletes of all shapes and sizes, including swimmers, cricketers, rugby players and equestrian athletes; however, I am also equally keen to work with everyday gym-goers and aim to help everyone achieve their fitness and sporting performance goals.

And how about on a more personal level? How has exercise been a part of your life so far?

My own sporting background includes equestrian disciplines and powerlifting (an odd combination I know!). I have ridden since the age of four and competed regionally with British Dressage until I started uni at eighteen which is when I first really started to get enthused about the gym and lifting. Up until that point, I’d only really dipped a toe in regards to the gym environment; I was the happiest hiding near the cardio machines and would only venture near the resistance machines and free weights if I had a friend with me for support.

What sparked the change then?

It all really changed when I started my degree as it quickly became apparent that I needed to up my game, and so I did. Sink or swim and all that jazz. Anyway, to cut a long story short by the end of my first year I was fully hooked on lifting and booked in to my first powerlifting competition with BPA. From there I competed at university competitions, national competitions and was even lucky enough to travel to South Africa to compete at the Powerlifting Commonwealth which was pretty damn awesome.

So how about now?

I’m now focusing on being the healthiest and happiest version of myself; no competition, just purely physical and mental fitness, wellness and performance whilst helping others do the same.

That sounds like a great balance! We can’t wait to hear from you in this series Lizzie, any final things we should know about you?

For sure, I always aim to be as unfiltered and transparent as possible in my coaching and through what I post on socials and will never photoshop what I post or promote anything I do not 100% believe in. No fakery, just me with some weights and a ton of coffee.

Thanks for getting to know me a little bit and I hope you’ll join me for my future blog posts.
